The world is watching

The way we consume television may be changing, but it still plays a huge role in most people’s lives. Including ours.

The creative bunch running our TV department have been making programmes for more than 30 years now and are always on the look-out for fascinating stories.

Specialising in travel, food and motoring, we’ve conceptualised, produced and directed over 50 hours of television – with our shows selling in more than 23 territories worldwide. Aside from our editorial projects, we can also create ad-funded programming, giving your brand valuable exposure in a whole new way.

Give us a shout and we’ll tell you more about it…

Media Ark – The strategic content specialists

The Media Ark is crewed by a passionate team of creatives, editorial experts, film-makers and brand specialists.

Launched in 2006 by television presenter Julian Hanton, and travel journalist Matt Carroll, as a full-service production company specialising in food, travel and automotive, we’ve been involved in online video since its infancy.

But these days, great content alone is not enough to attract consumers’ attention (and keep it). So as well as producing top quality editorial and commercial films, we help our clients make the most of their video assets by harnessing our media partnerships and detailed consumer insight.

We love nothing more than getting stuck into a challenging creative brief (kettle on, sketchpads at the ready), whether it’s coming up with a big campaign idea, producing exciting content for a client’s online channel or creating a microsite to house it all. We’re fanatical about television, too – having produced over 50 hours of programming, which has sold in over 100 territories worldwide.

What we do

Put simply, we create high quality editorial and commercial films for distribution across multiple platforms. With a background in food, motoring and travel journalism, we know what makes a good story – but more importantly, we know what makes the media and consumers tick, and how to grab their attention.

Whether you’re looking for a beautiful corporate film, or a series of videos for an online campaign, we’ll work with you to establish who you want to talk to, what you want to say – and what you’d like to achieve. We’ll then come up with a strategy and creative concept to make this happen – and (if you wish) analyse and measure the results.

Most importantly, though, we do all this quickly, efficiently and extremely cost-effectively.

Indian TImes

With India shaping up to be a powerhouse on the world stage, Julian Hanton sets out to explore the subcontinent in all its glory. Having visited the country 12 times already, there’s no one better assess the changes taking place. Along the way he samples Indian wine, eats sheep brains, joins in with protesters, takes his (Indian) driving test, witnesses an assassination – and eats the world’s hottest chilli. But that’s only scratching the surface…

Filmed in full HD for the Travel Channel UK, the show was one of the channel’s top-rating programmes – aired to over 75 million homes worldwide, across 119 countries.

The Third Class Traveller

Can you survive a week in a country for just 100 US dollars? This is the challenge facing our comical host, Julian Hanton as he reluctantly gives up the 5-star lifestyle to experience travel on the cheap. Exploring some of Europe’s most intriguing cities, Julian has to rely on a little traveller’s luck – and a lot of kindness from strangers – as he experiences culture by day and a local’s sofa by night. With death threats in Istanbul, eating mud in Lithuania, staying with a retired nude model in Berlin and visiting a cave cult outside Milan, there’s never a dull moment as Julian seeks to make every dollar last…

Julian & Camilla’s World Odyssey

Together with his female sidekick, Camilla Andersen, Media Ark’s off-beat travel expert (and dog phobic), Julian, set off around the globe on a series of adventures. While the first series saw the (sometimes) dynamic duo meet Mexican wrestlers, nudists in Jamaica, Masai warriors and gangsters in Colombia – the second instalment featured even more obscure capers. Julian faced the onslaught of a Sri Lankan fast bowler, Camilla saved the Polish city of Wroclaw from biological attack – and together they went surfing down a Nicaraguan volcano. All in a bid to take audiences under the skin of each destination.

Julian & Camilla’s World Odyssey, Special

In the final episode of their epic round-the-world journey, Julian and Camilla descend on their home country, New Zealand. Each is on a mission to prove that their island is the best – Camilla representing the North Island, and Julian flying the flag for the South Island. After agreeing to disagree, they jump behind the wheel of a classic Holden estate (sorry station wagon), and set off on a road trip to find out what makes a typical New Zealander…

The series will follow Julian’s escapades through the heart, mind and soul of modern America – meeting its inhabitants, in all their star-spangled glory.
